Washington Elementary School District
Designed for 1,050 students, the new school integrates a 94,000 SF learning environment including separate two-story classroom and kindergarten buildings, gymnasium, media center and lab, cafeteria, multiple music and art rooms, and administrative support.
The project was part of the school district’s bond program and is one of their largest schools. Facilities are also used by the community for special events and sporting activities.
Significant enhancements for sustainability are part of the design to maximize energy efficiency. In addition to LED lighting and building automation, a geothermal system was installed. The system includes 185 wells at 300 feet deep below the playfields with closed loop piping which is maintenance free. Payback of the initial $800,000 premium for the system was determined to be 9 to 12 years for the campus which will be in place for at least 50 years.
H2 provided full project management services to the school district during design and construction. Our staff facilitated over 40 meetings with numerous stakeholders throughout design. We also performed a thorough document review and led efforts to obtain a GMP which was in budget. Full-time on-site representation was furnished during the construction phase.
